A teaching assistant or Classroom Assistant certificate is the first level qualification to ready you for employment within the learning sector as a classroom assistant, learning support assistant or special needs assistant.

You do not need previous experience as a teaching assistant to study for a teaching assistant certificate, though practical time in the classroom is recommended and will better your chances of finding a job.

There are several routes to teaching assistant certification including the BTEC Teaching Assistant from ICS Learn , Cache Levels 2 and 3

Online learning is an excellent option for those who have other responsibilities and want to self pace their studies though be aware that practical time in the classroom will not be included in the course work.

Of the teaching assistant certificates available all will offer mandatory units looking at supporting pupils, supporting teachers and the supporting curriculum. There might also be optional units which will focus on ICT, special needs and literacy.
